Numbers sharing excel files

Why can I no longer share a numbers file, converting it to excel, via email in one step?

It used to be easy.

Now you need to export it to excel (creating a new copy) then send that file and then I have to delete the copy afterwards too.

I guess Apple tries to make a clear distinction between these functions and the meaning of the words describing the different actions: sending a copy of the file, collaborating on the file with others, exporting the file to a PDF, Excel, …

In the Menu>File>>>

  1. Send a Copy> Mail, Messages, …
  2. Collaborate with Others (for sharing the original file with others)
  3. Export To > PDF, Excel, …

This a change (in my opinion, an unwelcome one) in Numbers 12.2 that as far as I can tell has nothing to do with Microsoft or Excel.

You can give feedback to Apple via Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback in your menu.

Meanwhile, it looks as if you will have to continue with the added step of first exporting to a file, and then attaching that file to an email, etc.

It's a nuisiance that they deleted this very handy feature! 😡 Now extra steps make it herder to do and you have to save the extra (.xls) file on the computer. Means more clutter on the drive.

The strange thing is that on the Apple support site it's still mentioned as option: "send as copy and then choose the wished structure"
