Gmail App not showing updates

I don't know if this is an Apple, Gmail or email provider problem. I'm running iOS 15.6.1 on an iPhone 13 and all app are updated and plenty of storage free.

I installed the Gmail app and all my emails came through no problem, but the does not notify me of new emails until I enter the app. I have tried all the obvious things and the troubleshooting from google, but no luck. Also, I previously had Outlook installed for the same email address. It also failed to notify me of new emails, leading me to believe it is either an Apple or a email provider problem.

Can anyone help?

Have you checked Settings>Notifications>Gmail to make sure you have notifications enabled for the app? Have you checked Settings>General>Background App Refresh>Gmail to make sure it's enabled for the app? Have you checked Settings>Focus to make sure you haven't silenced Gmail under certain circumstances?

All those settings were as they should be. Although oddly it has just started working properly now. I didn't make any changes, so maybe google/apple/email provider finally got their act together.
