Macbook Air M1

Hi all, the trackpad and keyboard doesn't work after the M1 MBA wakes from sleep (after locking or time-out). Doesn't work = pressing caps lock doesn't light up for the keyboard (nor any other keys for that matter), and the trackpad doesn't have any haptic (unable to click it at all) and cursor can't move. Resolution so far is a forced shut down, and boot up again. Any idea on how to resolve this?

Hello KijuKij,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand your trackpad and keyboard are not working. Let's test if the issue persists when you start up in safe mode. You can start up in safe mode by following the steps here: Start up your Mac in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Then, test to see if the issue continues.

If the issue persists, you can run Apple Diagnostics to see if there's a hardware failure: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

If there is a hardware issue, your Mac may need service. You can find service at your local Apple Authorized Service Provider, Apple Store, or Apple Authorized Distributor: Find Locations

That should help. Let us know if you have any questions.

Take care.
