Screen Time requiring passwords for app updates

Hi - I am having a ongoing problem with iOS Screen Time which has been driving me crazy for a at least a year. I have had Screen Time set up for both of my kids ipads for a couple of years. it works well except for one issue: it asks me to enter the parental passcode for every app update for every app that they have. I want to have control over them getting new apps or in-app purchases, so I expect to have to put in a passcode for this. However, once they already have an app, and it is undergoing a simple update, I do not want to have to put in a passcode for every single update (for that app and all the other apps they already have). Doing this all of the time is starting to give me RSI I swear. Can anyway please suggest how to keep the need for my passcode for new apps that the kids want and for in-app purchase, but to turn off the need for passcodes for updates to apps that they already have? You would save me much pain.
