AirPods serial and model number don’t match

My mom gave me her AirPods because she doesn’t use them, but the serial and model number don’t match…what do I do?

Hi there Thatoneslow_blondie,

If your AirPods serial and model number doesn't match, they may not be genuine. It's ultimately up to you whether or not you want to connect them with your device.

You can choose to not connect your unverified AirPods, or to connect them in Bluetooth settings. If you connect your unverified AirPods, they may not behave as expected.
For more information, contact the place of purchase.

To help verify that your AirPods are genuine, identify your AirPods.

The related article linked in blue at the top left corner of this page provides this information.

Keeping that in mind, you may want to talk to your mom to see where she purchased them and then contact the retailer.

Take care.
