transfer email domain from google to apple

I've had google manage our family email domain for years. We all have the custom domain set up on Apple email on our Macs and iOS devices. I'd like to switch to Apple's new iCloud custom domain email service. But everyone in the family has a lot of old email that they don't want to lose - receipts, family correspondence, etc. When I make the record switch at our domain registrar, will we lose all of that old email? If so, is there a way to easily download years and years of email and then restore it?

Thank you for your advice

Greetings jbu57,

For help importing email, you can follow the guidance found here:

Import existing email messages to iCloud Mail from your custom email domain - Apple Support

"Import your existing email messages during Custom Email Domain set up

When you set up your custom domain for iCloud Mail, you can import your existing email messages:

  • When you choose a default email address, you see the option to Import email.
  • Select the email address you'd like to import messages from. You can import messages from other email addresses later.
  • Select Continue to sign in to your previous email account, and follow the onscreen instructions to finish importing your existing messages.

Depending on how many email messages you import, it might take some time before you start to see the imported email."

For questions about older email, or limitations from your current email provider, you'll need to contact that email service provider directly for assistance.

Take care.
