Homekit Automation

I have a number of automations, and what I am experiencing is that if I turn on or off any automated device manually from my home screen overriding the automation, that the device then ignores any automation after that. There seems to be no way to cancel the manual override and reset the device to follow the automation. I have tried disabling and enabling the automations. Question: How do I reset the system to follow the automation again?
