Background gone in PDF in Mac Preview App

I have a PDF file generated from Adobe Illustrator. There are several foreground elements. The background is a rectangle with a gradient fill. When I open it in my Mac's Preview App, the background does not show (I just see the foreground elements on a white background.) In Adobe Acrobat, the file appears normal. Prior to updating to Ventura, the file looked the same in Preview and Acrobat. I recently updated to Ventura. 16" MBP.

Did you apply the Ventura 13.0.1 update just in case it has a fix for Preview in it? Probably not, but worth a try.

Apple's Preview is a moving target like other Apple software and certainly cannot compete with Adobe's ability to keep Acrobat Pro and Reader DC current with PDF support features. If there is any PDF directives telling the PDF to use AcroJS or any Adobe plug-in request in the PDF, then Preview will ignore it.
