Mac M1 give me this error, when connecting to a thunderbolt port - "cannot use thunderbolt accessory"

I have two usb-c devices:

a monitor at work: Samsung LS32AM702UNXZA

a dock at home. startech tb3dock2dppd

Every time I get home from work, I plugin into my home dock I get the "cannot use thunderbolt accessory. Connect accessory to a thunderbolt port on this mac", and have found that rebooting is the only way to get it to work. It's plugged into the thunderbolt port, and it returns to functioning by rebooting.

Work around includes plugging into the other port. Which is a bad user experience.

Is there a way to not reboot every time?

Read this article:

If a Thunderbolt device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support (GE)

describes many steps that don't work, except the reboot.

Someone else pointed to this article, which seems to indicate that the usb-c port configures itself to one configuration when I plug into the monitor, but when I plug into the dock, it's incapable of reconfiguration.

also read this article - and quote it below.

The ports on newer Macs are capable of many different interfaces. The first cable you attach customizes the interface into a specific subset of all it can do. (why does unplugging it not release that subset, but rebooting does?)

To use ThunderBolt devices, you must do that customization with a ThunderBolt cable. Others will not have all the wiring needed to support ThunderBolt. (example: the Mac charging cable plugs into that port, but supports ONLY charging or USB-2, and nothing more.)

If your not going to bother reading the post, don't answer.

My question was: Is there a way to not reboot every time?

My work around was: rebooting fixes it.

You then suggest rebooting, to fix the problem, so you not adding anything to the discussion.

Also shutting down and booting up frequently reminds me of what it was like using windows. Shutting down and booting up frequently is the opposite of the reasons for owning a Mac. This suggestion in my opinion goes against all things Mac.

You are saying rebooting cleans out temporary cache and swap files for the system and apps and helps keep the system and apps running efficiently.

So you saying that if you don't reboot frequently, you system won't run efficiently. I agree that rebooting does clear cache and swap files, I disagree with the assertion that rebooting is a good choice for keeping a system running efficiently. As Mac's usually can maintain efficient opperation over very long periods of time, without rebooting. But if that is how you would like to run you operating system, may I recommend windows.
