Safari isn't supported anymore. I can create (music and graphics) and have
regular time machine backups. I like Safari but if I need to use a new browser
such as Brave, I will.
Do I have any other options besides buying a new or refurbished iMac?

A 2011 iMac cannot be upgraded beyond High Sierra 10.13.6 and will not run a current version of Safari. For security reasons, if it was mine I would use a browser that will run its current version on High Sierra.

Just about everything should work. Firefox is far from being discontinued and that isn't talking about the ESR version. Chrome/Chromium, MS Edge, Safari, Opera. It's all good for now.
See if the latest Firefox will work on your machine. It's a secure and reliable browser.
I use Mozilla FireFox on my 2011 Mac mini Media Server running High Sierra in order to access Xfinity Live TV and other sites.
