I Os updates for iPad

I have an iPad air2 that is currently running 15.7.1! The problem is it or the system will not allow me to update to iOS 16.1. I have tried the various suggestions contained in “help” including connecting the iPad to my computer via iTunes. There is obviously something wrong, but I can not figure out what? Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

Please tell us what models of iPad you have exactly. Settings->General->About->Model

The iPad Air 2 is not compatible with iOS 16, this is a fact. so if one of your iPads is compatible its definitely not an iPad Air 2.

If you provide the model numbers then we can conclusively tell you if they are or aren't compatible, and what exact iPad they are.

Here is a list of the highest version of iOS supported by the older models of iPad (for simplicity - “generations” are shortened to a number) that are restricted in their ability to be updated:

32-bit devices

iPad1 - iOS 5.1.1

iPad2, iPad3 and iPad mini1 - iOS 9.3.5 (WiFi Only models), iOS 9.3.6 (WiFi & Cellular)

iPad4 - iOS 10.3.3 (WiFi Only), iOS 10.3.4 (WiFi & Cellular)

64-bit devices

iPad Air1, iPad mini2 and iPad mini3 - iOS 12.5.6

iPad Air2, iPad mini4 - iPadOS 15.7.1

Newer models are all able to be updated to the current version, iPadOS 16.1

  • iPad Pro (all models)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad (5th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

Any current and future versions of iPadOS 15 is all this iPad will receive, now.

Sorry.

Its CPU is underpowered and that iPad only has 2 GBs of internal RAM.

iPadOS 16, with all of its new, more internal hardware resource intense features, needs, at the very minimum 3GBs of RAM, with many older iPad Pro and newer Air models that have 4 GBs of RAM and greater.

Sorry.

FYI,

Third party apps will still supoort your 2014 iPad Air 2 model for another 2 to 3 years, or so, before tbird party app support, eventually, will end.

So, you still have a few years left on this iPad before considering another purchase of a new or“newer” iPad model that can run whatever the current mobile OS version will be in the future.

Best of Luck to You!
