My wife's iPhone 8 wont update or restore. What can I do?
It was installing the latest OS update and froze.
It says that it can't be updated but it won't restore.
It gets 1/4 to 1/2 way then errors out.

This is the only way. If that fails then you may have a hardware failure which would have happened anyway

Do this sequence which starts with Forced Restart then goes onto Recovery Mode.

Try to use the Update option. There is no guarantee you can save any data since your last backup if you need to use the Restore option.
