Can't receive FaceTime calls on iPad Air 2

iPad Air 2, iPadOS 15.7.1, iPhone 8 iOS 15.6.1. My wife uses this iPad weekly and gets/receives FaceTime calls from multiple sources. Today she could receive a FaceTime call via cellular on her iPhone but it would not show up on her iPad. Note she does not have cellular on the iPad but does have "Calls from iPhone" ENABLED on the iPad. I have confirmed we have both devices on the same WiFi network and logged in correctly.

I have found that I can call her on the iPad if I use her me.com address but not if I use her cellular address. Frankly we've been gone for a month and we've not used the iPad -- so the settings haven't been changed. I'm really flummoxed about this.

Would appreciate any thoughts about what could have changed, and how to restore the service.

Hi Peter Jones4,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

FaceTime calls should be able to be received over Wi-Fi to the iPad without using the iPhone cellular connection.

Please see: If you can't make or receive a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad. The following steps may resolve the issue:

"If none of the above reasons apply to you, and you still can't make or receive FaceTime calls, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has a Wi-Fi connection to the internet or a cellular-data connection.
  2. Learn more if you're using router, firewall, or security software that restricts internet access.
  3. If you're trying to use FaceTime over cellular, make sure that Use Cellular Data is on for FaceTime. Go to Settings and tap Cellular or tap Mobile Data, then turn on FaceTime. If you're using an iPad, you might see Settings > Cellular Data.
  4. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that FaceTime is on.
    • If you see "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
    • If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't off in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.
    • Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address listed.

4.Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.

5.Restart your device.

6.Update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS."

Let us know more details if that doesn't help.

Have a fantastic day!

Thank you for your reply.

This appears to be a "gremlin" issue. I went through the iPhone and iPad settings one more time, and restarted both devices. I didn't change any settings, but the restart *seems* to have solved the problem because now FaceTime calls go through to the iPad, where they didn't before.

Just like in the old days -- when control-alt-delete was one of our best troubleshooting tools.
