PowerPoint export to.mp4 crashes computer

I’ve been using PowerPoint to export files as .mp4 for a few years. Today, first time after updating the OS, the export hangs, crashes the Mac and reboots every time without completing the export.

PowerPoint forum suggested various remedies, none of which worked.

I need the .mp4 export to work!

I first tried opening the PP file with Keynote, which worked broadly OK, but I haven't used Keynote before and would need to spend time getting to grips with it. But, and this is a major problem, it doesn't offer the export format .mp4, which I need for display on TV and using a data projector.

So, as I was visiting our local library, I tried the export on one of their Windows machines. It worked efficiently and gave me the result needed.

So this is definitely an issue of MS PowerPoint not fully compatible with Mac OS Ventura. Until they sort this out I shall be reduced to finding an available Windows PC for the export, which is a bit of a pain.

Why can't Apple and Microsoft talk to each other? Grrr!

Two days ago I updated Office to v16.67 and this appears to have solved the crash/restart issue, and I have ended up with 2 perfectly good .mp4 videos, the longer of which was 20:14 and contained a number of video clips. While this was processing, the mouse remained responsive throughout, and I was able on 5 occasions to free up memory using CleanMy Mac. RAM use peaked at about 13.5GB. On the CPU there was an extremely high value [sorry, I thought I'd screen shotted it but hadn't] by VTEncoderXPCService, which was doing all the heavy lifting.

But I got there: hope this works for everyone else.

I have had this issue for a while. When I export a Powerpoint file > 500MB on my MacBook Air 2018 8GB LPDDR3, it would crash near the end. However, if I kill all non-essential processes it would export fine. I have to kill almost everything including WiFi, OneDrive, Finder, Office, email, Safari, etc. This happens across multiple versions or Mac OS.

Is there anything I could do to avoid this issue? It sounds like even the new M2 still have the issue. How about MacBook Pro?
