IOS 16 & Apple HDMI to lighting issues

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. Since this happens when you are connected using an HDMI cable, it may be best to first rule out issues with the cable or connection. If available, test another HDMI cable and port. Does the same occur?

If so, while connected, check your iPhone Control Center to make sure that your TV is selected for audio. You may need to touch and hold the group of controls to see full audio options as mentioned in Use and customize Control Center on iPhone - Apple Support.

You might also be able to stream audio using AirPlay. Try the following from Use AirPlay to stream audio - Apple Support.

1. Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPod touch, or on your iPad:

• On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPadOS or later, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.

• On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.

2. Touch and hold the group of controls in the upper-right corner, then tap AirPlay.

3. Tap each speaker or TV that you want to play the current audio to.

It’s happening to a lot of people, so it’s not the HDMI cord. When is Apple going to acknowledge this issue they caused with the iOS 16 update and fix it? I am one of many that live in an area where Wi-Fi access is not available, so this is our only means of watching TV. It’s extremely disappointing that you can Google this issue and see so many people having it and Apple has yet to address it or try to fix it.

I am also having video out issues with my iPhone (12 mini) since updating to iOS 16.1.2. Use Apple lightening to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable. Does not work with my HP monitor or a Sony TV. Both monitor and TV work fine with the same cable and adapter using my iPad (mini 4) with iOS 15.7.1. I usually use my phone for a camera on a microscope and so I cannot use AirPlay to solve this problem.

This is not a cable or user error issue. The lack of attention to fix this issue raises a question: is Apple is in cahoots with streaming services to limit data usage? We also live in a rural area with no broadband service options and as of the ios 16 update can no longer use our hdmi cable with our phones when streaming content.
