I made the mistake of setting up my child’s iPad under my Apple ID. I don’t like that they have access to my photos and iCloud since they can delete things on accident. Also, don’t like that all my info gets sent to their iPad and they can mess with important info and settings. So, is there a way that I can switch the iPad to their Apple ID without erasing my photos and info on my phone and iCloud that is currently connected? Thanks.

You really do need to properly prepare the iPad before allowing anyone else access to the iPad. Otherwise you will have a very real risk of unintended merging of your personal and sensitive data with the next AppleID account that is used - and very likely encounter issues with Activation Lock.

Having correctly prepared the iPad, you can set-up the iPad from the initial “hello” screen.
Your child should have their own AppleID - in fact, every user should have their own AppleID to use with their own devices. This is essential to maintain intended separation of activities and to avoid unintended sharing of sensitive and data. Done properly, you’ll not have any issues with content related to your child appearing on your own devices - or your data appearing where it shouldn’t.

Performing the recommended procedure will have zero impact upon your own data. Simply signing-out carries risk of error - which may impact your data and/or result in your data being merged with your child’s AppleID account.
Thanks. I guess I just always thought that anytime you click the delete/erase all data command that you will delete iCloud photos and other info. That isn’t the case? What separates this case of (erasing/deleting data from device) from deleting all of the iCloud photos?

Ok, so as long as I sign out of my Apple ID on the devise before deleting the iPad I won’t delete my photos and personal info that’s stored in iCloud that is also being shared with the iPad? I’m very worried about deleting my photos somehow by deleting the iPad.
