Can't see edit button on messages on iPhone 12 Pro Max

I downloaded the IOS 16.1 so I can see the messages that has been deleleted as per Apple you have to go to message to the left hand side corner and hit edit , but What happens if you go to your messages and to your left hand side on the top you do not see edit but you do see filters
