I tried to designate my Photos library as the system library for my new MBP, but it froze. I've also tried repairing the library - it quickly got to 97% complete, and froze. This is a brand-new MBP 16, why is this happening? And how can I set a system library without it freezing?

Hi Where is the library stored? If it is in the normal location/pictures folder, then I'd suggest trying a restart in safe mode.

It's in the normal location, in the pictures folder. SO I restart in safe mode and then try to repair the library?
Update: Ding ding ding! This did it. I restarted in safe mode and it worked like a charm. Do you know why this might have happened?
Safe mode will clear temporary files and caches, and sometimes fixes odd glitches such as this. Probably a temporary file got corrupted and upset photos.
