(Safari) When I open Google search to enter query, the search bar is pushed offscreen

This is irritating because I can’t see what I’m typing. Ever since I got the iPhone 14 Pro Max, upgraded from my 13 Pro Max, this has been happening in Google using Safari. It doesn’t happen when I search Google using Firefox (iPhone), just Safari. Any ideas why this is happening?

Hey there czernattack83,

Let's ensure we're on the same page.

  1. Are you navigating to www.google.com?
    1. If not, let's check for the same behavior when visiting this URL.
  2. Are you using your iPhone in Portrait or Landscape?
    1. Do you find the issue persists if you switch from Portrait to Landscape then back again?
  3. Is the search bar being pushed to the top edge of your screen, or somewhere else?

It may also be worthwhile to clear the browsing data from Safari, then check for the same behavior.

Have a good one!

czernattack83,

Does this happen in a private browsing window as well? Are you running the latest iOS version on your iPhone? At the time of writing this that is iOS 16.1. You can view your options for updating the device here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Have you tried closing the app and opening it again to see if things persist? This can sometimes help with minor software issues. You can learn how to close apps here:

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

You can read the full context of the resource here: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Take care.

I’m intermediate regarding iOS savvy, so I have tried all the “first line of defense” solutions, to no avail (obviously). It does happen in Private mode; I have force-closed and re-opened Safari, etc; I have cleared my browser history; I’ve even “soft reset” my phone. I can’t seem to figure out why it’s doing this now. As I stated in the original post, it wasn’t doing this on my 13 Pro Max. And I’m using the same iOS backup from iCloud, so nothing is different except the phone being new (14 pro max). Any ideas? I have attached a screenshot in case it helps.

Hi czernattack83,

Are you using the desktop version of the site in question, which may not display appropriately on your mobile device? Tap the "AA" icon in the upper left of Safari to access options. From here you may see "Request Mobile Website" or "Request Desktop Website". If the former is displayed then you're viewing the desktop version and changing may resolve the concern.

Regards.
