Long press accents no longer functioning after Ventura update

The long press accents appear to be disabled in the new Ventura update. I've tried to reset the defaults of the modifier keys, nothing. I've also tried this terminal command found in other threads and still nothing.

write defaults -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Any help or alternative work arounds to restoring long press accents would be truly appreciated!
