Can't change volume of AirPods when using Spotify on Apple Watch

When I'm using Spotify on my new Apple Watch SE, I can't adjust the volume to my AirPods. When I go to Sounds & Haptics, I press the volume up and down but it always reverts to the previous volume through my AirPods. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the watch. I can control the volume from my phone without issue.

Hello I-vegotaquestion,

If you're unable to control the volume of your AirPods in the Spotify app on your Apple Watch, you'll want to start by making sure your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods are all updated to the latest iOS, watchOS, and firmware versions available.

On iPhone , the most current iOS version is iOS 16.1. You can check that in Settings > General > About > Software Version. If needed, learn how to update your iPhone here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

On your Apple Watch, the most current watchOS version available is watchOS 9.1. You can also check the version that's installed by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version on your Apple Watch. For more information about how to update your Apple Watch, have a look at this link: Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

To check your AirPods firmware version, you can follow these steps:

To use your iPhone or iPad to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods. Tap the "More Info" button , then scroll down to the About section to find the firmware version.

The current firmware versions are listed below for AirPods:

Latest firmware versions
- AirPods Pro (2nd generation): 5A377
- AirPods Pro (1st generation): 4E71
- AirPods (2nd and 3rd generation): 4E71
- AirPods Max: 4E71
- AirPods (1st generation): 6.8.8

You'll find this information and more here: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

Next, you mentioned uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your Apple Watch; did you simply turn it off in the Watch app on your iPhone? We'd suggest uninstalling the Spotify app from your iPhone, then reinstalling it, and then adding it back to your Apple Watch. The links below provide steps for how to do that:

Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Redownload apps and games from Apple - Apple Support

Delete apps from your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue persists after trying all the steps above, and you're only experiencing this behavior when using your AirPods with Spotify, you'll want to reach out to the app developer for more help. This link will help you get started: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Take care.
