User Name & Password

I understand that it is the administrator of the computer. When trying to log in from another computer it asks for user name. I cannot find the answer on the apple site.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13

Your username is the name of the Users -> yourname folder on the host computer of the folder you are looking for.

If you are remoting in from another administrator Mac, you may be able to use its administrator login depending on the depth of permissions of the host computer.


If you forgot that login for the host computer, it may be easier to copy the contents with Target Disk Mode.

If your host computer has filevault, you will need to find the administrator of the host computer.
