Hello Lovelyhubster,

You mentioned this started occurring after updating to iOS 16.1. Software updates can often address unexpected behavior. If you haven't already, please update to iOS 16.1.1 using the steps in Update your iPhone or iPad.

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

If you continue to experience the same issue, please contact Apple Support.

Take care!

Hi Lovelyhubster,

If you haven't done so yet, try changing the wallpaper to see if the behavior continues. This could help with determining if the issue only occurs with a specific wallpaper.

Change the wallpaper on your iPhone

Add a new wallpaper for your Lock Screen or Home Screen

1. In the Settings app, tap Wallpaper.
2. Tap Add New Wallpaper.
3. Tap Photos, People, or Photo Shuffle to choose your own photo. You can also select a wallpaper from a category like Weather & Astronomy, Emoji, Collections, or Color.

The options to add a new wallpaper in iOS 16.

4. If you want, you can customize your wallpaper further. Then tap Add.

Change your wallpaper from the Lock Screen

1. Make sure that you previously set up Face ID on your iPhone. To change your wallpaper from the Lock Screen, Face ID must clearly see your eyes and the areas around them.
2. On the Lock Screen, touch and hold your Lock Screen to open your wallpaper gallery.
3. To select a wallpaper you already created, swipe left and right. To add a new wallpaper, tap the Add button .

You can rotate between wallpapers you create from the Lock Screen in iOS 16.
From the Lock Screen wallpaper options, you can also tap the Focus button to link a Focus to a specific wallpaper, customize existing wallpapers, or swipe up on a wallpaper and tap to delete it.

Cheers.
