How do I retrieve deleted text messages

The Apple Support article linked below will provide some help.....IF.....you have installed iOS 16 on your iPhone......AND.....the messages were deleted after you installed iOS 16 on the phone.

What would happen if it was deleted before?

The messages are gone

Like earlier that day or the day before?

If you deleted the messages.......after......you installed iOS 16, you should be able to take advantage of the new feature in iOS 16. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked above.
