Hi, Micmac1849, maybe I can help you a bit.... If you hold down the "Option" key on your keyboard and click on the Speaker icon, at the top right of your screen, to the left of the menu bar clock, it'll show you all available/active audio inputs and output... You could also try Audio MIDI setup, which should be in your Applications folder, in the Utilities folder... get that going... you should be able to set the input audio source, frequency, bitrate, and things like that... as a cheap shortcut, go to system preferences > Sound> there should be an Output, Input and Sound Effects button, here you can also set the input....what thing are you trying to plug in and use on your Mac Mini ? if it's a microphone built into a monitor, should be no problem....USB, no problem, iPhone headset/earphones, no problem.... Macs usually use a 4 Pole TRRS audio plug setup, if you look at the plug of an iphone headset, you'll see 4 bands/stripes going across the plug/connector itself... and there are your 4 poles...to use "regular" headsets/microphones with a Mac, you'll either need a TRRS to TRS adapter plug, or you can use a USB adapter plug (commonly called a USB external soundcard) which has 2 sockets on it, one for listening (output) and one for recording (input), which is usually red in colour.... if it says it supports both TRS and TRRS, then you're good to go....
