There is no application set to open the URL ksec://openFromLogin’

OK, so I installed Mac OS 13 Ventura on my MBP the other night, and on the whole, it was a smooth and relatively trouble-free update.

However, each time I log into my own admin profile, I encounter the message ‘There is no application set to open the URL ksec://openFromLoginItem’.

Screenshot below illustrates what I am referring to:

Now, I realise that this issue has been discussed at length already, but after a fair amount of digging around, I have discovered that the solution is a childishly easy one.

For those people who have and/or use a VPN – brand name is irrelevant in this case – the problem appears to be caused by the Mac OS update overlooking the presence of a VPN App, and thus not including it in a user’s Login list.

The fix – as I mentioned – is really very easy:

Simply navigate to said VPN in the Applications Directory, and launch it manually. Once the VPN has launched and the subscribed owner has logged into the App the problem disappears. This is because the VPN is reallocated to the login items list.

This solution may not be immediately evident to the user, as Mac OS Ventura does not recognise the VPN as a relevant application for this purpose, and therefore shades it out when you try to choose an application yourself.

Just launch it manually though… and Voilà! The problem is gone.

i hope this helps.
