disable automatic dictation

My iPhone is recognizing me speaking when I am composing a text message. However, it does so WITHOUT ME HAVING HIT THE MICROPHONE ICON. Why and how do I turn that functionality off?

iPhone 6s, iOS 15

Hey there Joe,

Let's team up to take a closer look at Dictation enabling itself, along with ruling out some possible causes:

When did this start?
We see you have iOS 15 installed, but the latest for your model is iOS 15.7.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
If there's anything covering the screen, remove it, then test for the same issue.

you didn't answer the question at all. it has nothing to do with my os version.

I discovered the answer when I noticed the ICON on the home screen --I think it is a microphone

while investigating changing the volume on my speaker during a phone call, I inadvertantly enabled "voice control". settings / accessibility / voice control.

I googled this forever to no avail. oh well.
