Just loaded Ventura on my MacBook Pro, and all my folders and files were sent to iCloud! My hard drive has nothing, now! How to I get them back?

Can anyone tell me how to retrieve all of my hard drive's folders and files from iCloud? I loaded Ventura onto my MacBook Pro and it sent everything to iCloud before I could click keep on hard drive, and deleted the folders and files off my MacBook's hard drive (where I want them). PLEASE HELP!

MacBook, macOS 11.1

If you failed to disable Desktop & Documents in iCloud Drive when the Startup Assistant ran, you should find your Desktop and Documents folders under iCloud Drive. All of the files are still on your Mac. The Desktop and Documents folders are also still in the same place, but Finder hides them.

You can just disable Desktop & Documents in iCloud Drive, then move the files from iCloud Drive into your Desktop and Documents folders. If that scares you, you can choose to Archive the files. But, again, nothing has actually moved anywhere.
