Some songs not syncing on iPod Touch

I have a 2 year old iPod Touch, and it has started playing up. The other day, I plugged it in to sync some new music, and it erased and re-added my music. Takes hours, as I have thousands of songs. I then realised that it had missed quite a few songs in the sync, and each time I connect my iPod, it still misses them. When connected in iTunes, I go to the left side and where it says "On My Device", and "Music", it shows the songs on the iPod. I then find some songs greyed out, with a dotted circle on the left. I have attached a photo showing this.

There is plenty of space on the iPod, and the songs are in my iTunes library and play fine. I don't use the cloud, and the songs are mostly ripped from CD's as I very rarely use the iTunes store. Any ideas? It is really frustrating to listen to an album and find songs missing.

Are you able to play the affected song on iTunes?

Are you experiencing a similar issue if you sync the affected songs with a different iOS device?

Are the songs acquired from the iTuens Store or Apple Music?

While it isn't inherently assured that an update will resolve the issue, updating to the latest software version for your device can help isolate potential software issues.

Thanks for the update. Let's get a little more information to help narrow this down.

When you sync, are you connecting with USB or using Wi-Fi?

If you remove one of the songs on the PC and import it again from the CD, can you sync it to the iPod?

Are these songs synced onto other devices?

Thanks.

The tracks do play fine in iTunes.

They are mostly ripped from CDs, so not from the store or apple music.

I have no other Apple products to test with.

I have checked for updates, and it is all up to date.

Synced via USB.

Re adding to itunes and then syncing sometimes works, but not always, and often leads to other songs then having the issue that didn't have the issue before.

The songs are not synced elsewhere.
