Adding Photos to Ipad from PC

I haven't added photos for some years and the process seems to have changed. I simply want to add new photos. There used to be a screen where all my selected photos were listed. I simply checked new albums. Now it seems that all my old selections will be deleted. Is there some workaround?

iPad Air 2, iPadOS 15

Where do you want your main store of photos?

On the iPhone, on the Windows computer, or in iCloud?

I would not recommend using iPhone as your main photo store, given its exposure to theft, loss, and damage, though.

Here’s how to get photos onto your Windows computer, and sync back to iPhone:

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC - Apple Support

Here is how to use iCloud, which is accessible from iPhone, Windows, and iCloud.com:

Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

If you already have something set up as your main store, which?

Import the contents of the camera roll, and then sync. Anything not in the camera roll was previously synced from elsewhere, so hopefully that’s either loaded in your photo library, or recoverable from other sources.

As I noted in the title I am trying to go from my PC to the Ipad. There is no Iphone or Icloud involved. When I attempt to sync a panel comes up for me to check entries. My old checked entries do not appear and worse I am notified that all old entries will be deleted. Why would Apple do this?

You are using Windows.

You are attempting to sync individual photos from Windows to iPad.

The copies of the photos on iPad are not particularly important, nor is having a single repository of photos important to you.

Apple, however, would prefer a repository of photos exist. Which means importing and storing your photo library on iTunes on Windows, then performing a sync from there. This import and then iTunes sync will also get a copy of the iPad photos into Windows, then back out . Use the previously-linked info for details.

The Windows photo app can probably also import photos from iPhone too, though Apple doesn’t document that path, and I don’t know if there is a way to push photos out to an iPad. Check with Microsoft, there.

My previous reference to iPhone also applies to iPad; the two work the same, here.

Unfortunately, I see way too many folks that have only had copies of their precious photos on an iPad or iPhone, and lost them.

To answer your questions:

I am using Windows 10.

My single repository is my PC.

I am attempting to sync photo albums from my PC to my Ipad.

Itunes lets me select albums stored on my PC. Once I make the selection and hit 'apply' button I get a note the says that all albums that are not native to the Ipad will be deleted. I assume this also means prior downloads.

Why?
