Icloud sync slower than google drive and box

I have a MacBook pro with the M1 chip, an Imac with the 1 chip, excellent internet service and yet it take iCloud over 24 hours so sync -- I upgraded to 200 GB storage space, so plenty of space there. It's not the first time iCloud is super slow to sync. When I save a report I am working on, on G Drive or Box, it takes a few minutes to pick it up on another device. Not with iCloud, it is very disappointing no to have a super fast syncing interface especially when I am using 2 computers that are less than 18 months old.

Suggestions? Thanks

Why would I spend time setting a test user account or use safe mode to solve a problem that is obviously on Apple to fix, not its customers. I absolutely never have sync issues with DropBox or G Drive. I am a customer, not a software programmer for Apple. and by the way, I just migrated all my files to Dropbox, because IT WORKS.

Hi Sophie Romana,

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that your experience syncing data with iCloud is slower than expected.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

Have you had the chance to try a different Wi-Fi network?

How much data are you syncing?

Are your devices connected to the network via Wi-Fi or ethernet cable?

In the meantime, we recommend that you check if the issue persists when signed in on a different user account.  Testing in a new user account helps to determine if the issue is system-wide or user-specific, which is good for identifying possible causes.

The article below can help if you do not have any other user account to test with.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, we recommend that you check if the issue persists while on safe mode. Safe mode prevents some items from launching on startup, so you can use it to rule out certain software causes.

Below is an article to help guide you through the process.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

These details and steps can help further isolate the issue.

Take care!

  1. Equipment: MacBook Pro M1; IMAC with an M1 as well purchased in December 2022
  2. iCloud subscription that I upgraded from 50 GB to 200 GB
  3. Internet: we have Spectrum Business, we actually have two 5G networks -- both Macs were on the same network at the time of the syncing issue
  4. I work on MS Office for Mac documents: word, power points and excel spreadsheets.
  5. I was working on a large report (49 MB)
  6. Instead of waiting for iCloud to sync, I simply saved it in Dropbox on my desktop which immediately synced it so I could work on it on my laptop.

It's not the first time that I have this issue with iCloud and when I do, I either use G drive or Dropbox which sync seamlessly. It is quite frustrating, because frankly iCloud sync should be as seamless and instantaneaous as G drive or Dropbox.
