What gets backed up when an iPhone is "backed up"? Is it just data ta or all apps or what exactly?

Hi,
Thanks foe the information. I was looking for it and couldn't find it. Probably me being the issue however I'm having a battery replaced today and want to get an iCloud backup before having it done. (At an Apple store near by).
Follow-on question:
Should I do a reset of my iPhone (i.e. removing everything off the phone? Will that gain me anything aside from a empty phone?

Nope. But it's suggested you restore it if you still can before getting it repaired. Apple will ask that you at least turn of Find My and sign out of iCloud anyway.
