my iphone13 pro max will not turn on

After following all the directions I plugged the charger directly into a wall receptacle for 5 minutes and when I unplugged it came on! It was charged to 100%. It had been on the charger all night. Not sure what happened? Would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem and what the root of it would be? Thanks for your help.
