It would depend on the condition of the box. Apple uses specific packaging for shipping that's easy to identify if it's been tampered with. Their shipping boxes have the pull tabs with the arrows printed on it, just like the actual retail packaging the item comes in. Was the pull tab intact? If so, then that would mean it would've had to leave the warehouse as an empty box and you'd want to call Apple to report that issue.

Was the pull tab missing, or the box taped with just generic clear shipping tape? If so, that is not how Apple packages their shipping boxes and that would mean someone opened it at some point after it left the warehouse. If that's the case, you'd want to contact UPS to report the issue.
