Help with startup sound

Hello, I am trying to turn off the startup sound on my mac, but in the "Sound" tab there is no option. I'm using Catalina10.15.7. Where can I find the option?

To be clear, it is the volume control -- both the keyboard control AND the audio control dialog. Sound comes out, the mute button works, and using the volume slider will mute the sound and turn it back on, but the volume will not change - sound is either on or off, but I can't change the volume. This is true for the internal speak as well as a connected bluetooth speaker. I'm no aware of any software update, nor does rebooting make any difference. One day it simply stopped working. Why can't I open sound preferences? I can't open the sound panel is system preferences. I lost all sound on my computer, however my usual way of fixing this (opening sound and selecting my headphones/other speaker) didn't work because every time I try to open sound, it makes the preferences app unresponsive, then says "could not open sound preference pane". Can not change the sound input/output on Mac Just upgrade to macOS 13.5 Ventura from macOS Monterey. I found the switch between sound input/output is out of function. When I tried to click another input/output device, it just jumped back to the default one. Is there anyway to fix it? Sound_switch not working

You need to be running Big Sur or later to have that option.
