iMac auto power on with WiFi plug

Hi, I have an iMac connected to power via a WiFi enabled plug. I shutdown my iMac and then turn off the power via the WiFi plug app. Is there a way to force the iMac to power on when I turn the WiFi plug back on? I do not want to schedule an auto start each day. If I enable the option to auto turn on after a power failure this does not work with the scenario above. It seems that after a shutdown, I have to physically press the power button to turn it back on. My reason for wanting this is that when I am away, I turn as much power off as I can using WiFi enabled power sockets but occasionally may want to remote onto my iMac.
