Safari shows incorrect icons for bookmarks

How can I stop safari from using an incorrect icon for my bookmarks?

Several bookmarks suddenly had an airplane icon instead of website’s icon. The Google bookmark suddenly had an airplane instead of the colorful G.

I did find a tedious fix in this blog, but it must be done for each altered bookmark.

  1. open bookmarks, click Edit, click the bookmark, change “www.google.com” to “google.com”
  2. if your bookmark originally is “google.com” then change it to “www.google.com”

I’d like to know how to fix this permanently.

Hello Grateful_retiree,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. There are troubleshooting steps available that can help resolve the incorrect icons appearing for your bookmarks in Safari. Let's follow each of these steps and see if it helps:

  1. Restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

2. Clear the history and website data for Safari. This will remove history, cookies and other browsing data. To

perform this step please go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Data.

3. Temporarily turn off Safari for iCloud and then turn the feature back on. You'll need to go in Settings > tap your name at the top > iCloud > Safari.

Following these steps may help resolve the incorrect icon for your bookmarks in Safari. We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Best regards.
