HI blankpages,

This is the first question I've seen posted by you using this user name.

Your question was posted at 32 minutes past the hour.

Your second post was posted seven minutes later, at 39 minutes past the hour.

Your third message was posted two minutes later at 41 minutes past the hour.

You marked your second post as having solved your issue at about the same time as you wrote and posted the third message.

Total time between posting the question and sending the "Well that its all I needed to know." message: nine minutes.

This is a user to user community. The people replying to questions are volunteers. They have no scheduled time during which they must be here, and fit their visits into their own (usually busy) days. They generally choose to answer questions for issues with which they have some familiarity, although, as Viking OSXl0 has already noted, the poster's expressed attitude does sometimes deter (or encourage) a response.

Getting to your question and situation:

"I just want to write my memoirs"

"How can I set up an A4 size blank pages mode as they is what I need to use. I do not want small boxes"

Every Pages document starts with a template. For your document, one appropriate template is the "Blank" template, found in the Basic section of the Template Chooser.

Depending on what preferences you have set, you can open the Template Chooser by pressing option - command - N

or, if that immediately opens a preset template, by pressing option-N.

In the chooser, double click the template you want.

When the blank document opens, click on the "document" button (top left) to open the Document Inspector.

Click to uncheck the Header and Footer checkboxes to remove the 'little boxes' at the top and bottom of the page.

Check the Paper size near the top of the inspector panel. If your computer's region setting is one where A4 is the common size, that will likely be the size automatically set. If it a different size, click on the box containing the size to open a pop up menu and choose A4 from the list.

Close the Inspector y clicking the Document button again.

Click in the page, and start writing.

Barry

I'm stumbling around in a Pages nightmare I'll tell you that! I used a MAC back when WORD was the installed word processing platform and I went through three laptops before I discovered Pages. I had no idea what it was with all those stupid text boxes making it a nasty work project just trying to type anything at all including email, letters, documents <--- a particular kind of ****... so, it's going to be back to Word for MAC pdq. You can get this for free. Simply go to Office.com and sign up for a free Microsoft account to start using Word, Excel, or PowerPoint for free on your Mac. You can also upload files from your Mac into Office.com which will be saved in Microsoft OneDrive. This was taken from an article published Oct 17, 2022

I neeeeed Excel for spreadsheet work and haven't found anything comparable in Apple software. I had Word and Excel installed on my old MAC and with each new upgrade (they lasted for 6 and 7 years respectively before blowing up in the battery area. I was able to transfer my HD data into a new laptop except in the last instance when these programs had to be upgraded to work in a MAC OS. So here I am. Struggling. It's about the programs though, not so much the operation of unit, which eventually comes to be 2nd nature once you read enough articles, manuals, and make Google inquiries to drag info out of interspace that will help.

Hi GabbyAbbyJax'

You wrote: "I had no idea what it was with all those stupid text boxes making it a nasty work project just trying to type anything at all including email, letters, documents…"

I suspect those text boxes were required because you used a blank Page Layout template for your letters and other documents done with Pages. Had you used a blank Word Processing template, you would have been able to type directly onto the page, and new pages would be added automatically when needed to accommodate what you were typing.

Thank you, Barry, I appreciate the input regarding Pages, but unfortunately, text boxes are being inserted into everything I type, including this comment. This is becoming such a HUGE time suck and it's so easy to make mistakes when one can't view the entire page. Formatting is now a nightmare. I have had MAC products for years and this is an entirely new problem, I haven't done the latest OS update from Apple but I don't see how it could be related. I have Monterey 12.6 on a 2020 Macbook Air. This has not been an issue until two weeks ago - it happened out of the blue. I've gone into System Preferences to make sure Live Text wasn't checked -- it was the only thing I could find as a suggestion after doing a little sleuthing and I have no idea what else I might be able to do to get rid of text boxes all over the place.

If anyone can help, I'll be delighted to hear from you -- thanks!! Abby

Hi Abby,''You might want to re-post your question as a new discussion. This discussion has been marked SOLVED, which will likely mean it is visited by fewer people who could provide a solution.

In your new discussion, please complete the Mac model, system version, and version of Pages you are using.

A more detailed description of where to find "Live Text" might also be useful. A quick look into System Prefs didn't reveal it here (Monterey 12.6).

Barry
