iPhone adds +1 in front of numbers when I try to text them

These numbers are NOT in my contacts and I really don't want to add a contact for every time I text a number.

+1 Added to texting What is adding a +1 to incoming text messages on my iPad? This makes the use of contacts useless for showing who sent the message. This happens only on my iPad and not my iPhone, both are synced for contacts. Seems like a recent problem for me.

iPhone 12 pro max update After recent update my contacts only show up as numbers I have tried every thing including restarting, changing region etc. This works for a short while and then reverts back to numbers

Hi jcox206,

To clarify, is this new behavior from Messages? If so, were there any recent changes such as an iOS update, a new number, new phone, etc?

Also, do you notice this in the Contacts app as well or only Messages?
