CarPlay voice to text stopped working since iOS16 update

Since updating to iOS 16, I can’t respond to texts or send texts via CarPlay. I’ve tried restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as a myriad of other online suggestions to no avail.

more detail: when Siri asks if I’d like to reply, it’s like it doesn’t hear me, and times out. If I hit the Siri icon, it hears me, thinks for a bit, says it’s trying, and says there was an error. The same behavior occurs when I try to send a message from scratch.

I think I found the root of the problem but am unsure how to fix it. Siri hears me, but fails or times out executing the commands. No matter what I ask of Siri, it just spools forever.

So, I’ve found a weird work around, but not a fix. If I change language to English (UK), Siri works. If I switch it back to English (American) it does not.
