AirPods stolen out of box

We had a pair of AirPods stolen out of the box while in transit. The thief left the box in the package, so we have the serial number. Is there any way to tell Apple that they were stolen? We got a replacement, I just don’t want someone else to have the satisfaction of stealing our stuff.
