Smart Mailboxes not working

I have created many Smart Mailboxes but since Catalina and now Monterey, they do not work. Our company uses gmail. Each one shows me the unfiltered Inbox. One solution offered was to delete the account and then recreate it and all the Smart Mailboxes. That would be days of work since each mailbox has multiple rules that need to be built through the experience of finding email that weren't caught by the Smart Mailbox the first time.

I much prefer Mac mail to gmail except for this issue which may force me to drop Mac mail for gmail.

  1. Can smart mailboxes be saved off?
  2. Was a fix found for this problem?

It's quite possible it is Gmail that is throwing things off. Since it isn't truly IMAP or POP, there are many problems when you try to access it with a standards compliant email client.

I have several Smart Mailboxes that have always worked without issues. None of them I would consider to be complex, though.

Since Gmail doesn't actually follow any of the email standards, it is best to use the web portal with Gmail.
