IOS16 Can no longer change cursor position by swiping spacebar in messages and notes

Just updated to IOS16 and am having inconsistent luck with where I can use the “press and drag on spacebar” feature to slide my cursor .

This does not work in text messages or in notes .

This does continue to work in safari browser

iPhone SE, iOS 12

Why can’t we place cursor anywhere we want to edit texts? Does anyone else hate some of these “short cuts” Apple’s decided to add to 12? I want to at least have the option of turning off the “long press space bar to release cursor” short cut and replace with old fashioned “put the darned cursor wherever I put my finger (on the screen 🤭)” Does anyone know if this is possible?

Why can’t I move the cursor to edit in messages after updating to iOS 17? I was composing a message but after typing I remembered something that I needed to include and to do so I needed to move the cursor back to a sentence near the beginning. I tried placing it, I got a circle with the cursor in the right place but as soon as I removed my finger it went to the end of the message, I tried dragging it but it would stop at the top of the window and it would go no further when I tried, then as soon as I put my finger on it, it went to the end of the message. Not the feature I expected or want

New iOS 17 - cursor inaccurate, does not let me edit texts and emails Is this happening to everyone? When I am typing a message or email and need to go back to make a correction (often because the new iOS has incorrectly auto-corrected a word) the cursor will not allow precise placement - it simply highlights whatever word is closest to where I placed the cursor, and I must either delete that word, fix the error, then retype in the deleted word, or click around trying to get the cursor to simply land somewhere without highlighting. Long-pressing and moving the cursor manually no longer works, it only highlights the word so I can’t edit it, I can only erase it or copy it. It’s so frustrating and time consuming to type anything!

It started working again later in the day.. No idea what the problem was

tap and hold on space bar then drag works in those apps on my phone.
