Apps open automatically

When I start my laptop it opens all kind of apps automatically.... Spotify iMessage etc etc. How can I stop this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

There are several places to check:


Open items automatically when you log in on Mac - Apple Support


Read Remove a login item.


Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support


Read Quit all apps when you restart, shut down or log out.


In addition to Login Items some apps have preferences that can be configured to open them automatically upon login. Investigate that possibility.
