Homepod mini (stereo using 2 mini) wont work with Apple TV 4K

I have setup the homepod mini to works as stereo and if i use it via airplay from my phone, it works great. The issue comes when my Apple TV 4k tries to connect to the homepod, it keep saying unable to connect.

I tried to use single homepod and it works for like a bit with stuttering sound and stop working after around 20 seconds.

I also already trying to reset both my ATV, HomePods, and my router. All of them are using 5Ghz channel.

Somehow after doing reset, now my ATV have super slow network speed and struggling to even load anything and the HomePods still not work with my ATV.

ATV are connected via wifi (router is like 3-4 meter from all of my device)

Hey there Neolitz,

Make sure you've assigned both HomePod mini to the same room as described here:

Set up home theater audio with HomePod mini or HomePod and Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

"Set up home theater audio

Assign your Apple TV and HomePod mini or HomePod to the same room in the Home app. If you want to use two HomePod mini or two HomePod speakers, create a stereo pair, then assign the stereo pair to the same room as your Apple TV in the Home app.
Turn on your Apple TV. You'll be asked if you want to Use HomePod speakers as Apple TV speakers. Select Use as Apple TV Speakers to turn on home theater audio.

Hi Alma,

Yes I have my HomePods Mini paired as stereo and I can play music from my phone to it. Just specifically to Apple TV default audio. Every time I set it as default audio, an error screen would pop-up (like image shown below).

At the moment, I have to go to my phone, and set them up manually via airplay for the HomePods mini to works with my Apple TV 4K.

I also found out that when playing Youtube Live Video from my Apple TV 4K (after paired with HomePods Mini manually via iPhone) the result is just stop motion picture without any sound, however if the Live have DVR features, the Video will play but with 2~3s Delay.

Because of this, I try experimenting:

ATV (Paired manually with HP via iPhone) + Live Youtube Video without DVR = Stop Motion picture & no audio
ATV (Paired manually with HP via iPhone) + Live Youtube Video with DVR = Works normally with delay +-2s
iPhone (Paired with HP via Airplay) = Works completely fine.

DVR is ability to pause, rewind, and continue during the live stream

From the experiment above, my conclusion is that maybe ATV 4K is unable to process fast enough for the audio to be played.

So I'm now stuck with 2 issues:

Apple TV 4k is unable to use Paired HomePods Mini as Default Audio Output
Apple TV 4k is unable to play Youtube Live Videos without DVR (or in this case, its become stop motion picture without audio)

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the help, I've already have both ATV 4k & HomePods mini to latest update and just yesterday I finally called the support.

After the call I managed to use the stereo HomePods via phone pairing, but it still wont connect as a default speaker on my ATV 4K.

If you have any tips to making Stereo HomePods mini as Default Speaker in ATV, please do tell me.
