Why can't Android devices connect to macOS shared Internet over WiFi?
Hi folks,
I wanted to know what the official / technical reason is for Android devices not being able to connect to a shared Internet connection from a Mac, over WiFi?
And ... is there anything that can be done about it?
It seems like Apple is creating an artificial restriction, as WiFi should simply be WiFi, and not be device specific.
The set-up is:
- Macbook with Ethernet connection to Internet
- Share that Ethernet connection over WiFi
- Android device connects to the Mac WiFi
- BUT ... the Mac WiFi doesn't issue it DHCP / IP configuration, so the connection is unsuccessful.
- And if I manually enter an appropriate IP (e.g. 169.254.7.90), Router IP (e.g. 169.254.7.1), the Android connects to the Mac WiFi, but isn't granted Internet data.
Surely there's a way around this?
Thanks very much...
