Blocking Email Senders

I’ve set my preferences in settings/mail/threading/block sender options to send blocked emails to trash. However, this is not working: mail remains in the inbox with a tag at the top saying it’s been blocked “this message is from a sender in your blocked list” with a link to “Preferences”. I’ve re-check my preferences and they’re set correctly.

I have so many spam emails from repeat senders that I’ve previously blocked that I need them to go to trash. How do I fix this?

I have the latest IOS software on my iPhone 13 Pro.

Hey SuzieOBX,

Great idea with double-checking the settings to make sure blocked senders go to the trash. Is this only happening with emails that were in your Inbox before turning on this setting, or is it happening with new emails too? If this is only happening with old emails, that's expected. Your current emails will stay in the Inbox, and you'll need to manually move them to trash. New emails should though move to the trash folder as you have it set to. More information can be found here: Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If new emails are not moving to the trash, see if the following steps help to refresh the settings and resolve the issue:

  1. Tap Settings > Mail > Blocked Sender Options and turn off "Mark Blocked Sender".
  2. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Tap Settings > Mail > Blocked Sender Options and turn "Mark Blocked Sender" back on.

Test to see if new emails now appear in the trash instead of the Inbox. Keep us posted on the results.

Take care!
