No..that is not correct my friend. In india carriers already started 5g services and other mobile companies 👍 samsung, vivo, oppo and many more devices it is alrdy working 5g service. But iphones still showing need software updates from apple. Attached screenshots for your reference my friend.
It is NOT up to Apple to release it. It's the responsibility of the carriers. They can choose to release it independently or they can opt to have it included in an iOS update. Either way, it is re carrier who is responsible.

But they have not created the carrier update files necessary to activate 5G service on their network. Until your cellular provider creates those files for iPhones, it will not have 5G coverage. Despite their lame excuse, the cellular provider is 100% responsible.
Yes, it IS correct. Go complain to your carrier. This is their fault, not Apple's.
