Web Google maps in Safari scrolls too fast and jumpy after latest OS/Safari update

After the OS/Safari update, google maps using Safari does not zoom in and out smoothly with 2-finger scrolling on trackpad. Instead, it scrolls jumpily and zooms much faster. See versions and hardware details below.

OS: macOS Monterey 12.6 (21G115)

Safari: Version 16.0 (17614.1.25.9.10, 17614)

Device: MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) M1 Pro
