How do I turn off (NOT RESTART) my iPhone Xs without the slide bar/using Screen?

I do not want to restart my phone, I want to fully shut it off completely using the buttons because my screen is not working. My phone has water damage so it needs to be fully shut down so I can put it in rice. I understand how to "Force restart iPhone X" using the instructions below - but this only restarts a phone and does not shut it off.

Restarting Instructions (How do I get it to not turn back on and shut down??)

  1. Press and release the volume up button.
  2. Press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

First, don’t put it in rice. That’s a false internet meme; it doesn’t work, and can make the problem worse. Just leave it in a warm place for a few days. But if it’s gotten wet there is a very low probability that anything will help the problem.

If you are going to put it in anything get a large, dehydrated silica gel packet (Amazon or a local hardware store) and put the packet and the phone in a ziplock bag for a few days. It may not help, but it won’t hurt the way rice can.
